Caught myself thinking the other day (as many of you still do), about the ugliness and mysterious organizations that create and disseminate television ads against opponents.
My wife tends to watch new shows, and mainline channels. My forte is old westerns and sci fi. Her ads mostly right now are ‘bad, evil candidate’ and my channels are ‘please subscribe/adopt something that needs help’. (I’m waiting on Gofundme to start making 30 second clips, maybe with multiple people in need).
I created in my head (not doing paid/unpaid work in politics this season); black & white campaign ads. Each showing explanations of how their campaign is slow-rolling due to lack of funds.
The script would read something like this:
“The (party this ad doesn’t want you to support) are at the gates! And they’re coming after You! In this time of crisis, we desperately need your help! For as little as $20 or more, per day, we can:
- Collect your personal information
- Use that information to create a detailed profile that allows us to design ads for you (to get your pledges for other similar scams)
- Create increasingly angrier commercials about the evils of our opponents
Just think, there’s an entire industry devoted to this insanity. 24/7/365. Or rather, don’t think. And vote in your upcoming election. (Act now, and get another set of smoke and mirrors, entirely free!*)
