I looked back at the beginning of the year posts and saw that I reviewed last year’s predictions – but did not make an attempt for this year. Shameful omission on my part, but looking on what has transpired in the first part of this year, it’s probably better that I abstained. I mean, look at the world so far:
- Zika virus
- Brussels attacks
- Mossack Fonseca
- United Kingdom votes to leave the European Union
- Deaths this year: Muhammad Ali, Pat Harrington, Jr., David Bowie, Prince, Luis Arroyo, Glenn Frey, Abe Vigoda, Sir Terry Wogan, Bob Elliott, Umberto Eco, Harper Lee, Lennie Baker, Frank Kelly (from the sitcom Father Ted), Martha Wright, Ken Howard, Garry Shandling, Patty Duke, Ronnie Corbett, Merle Haggard, Jimmie Van Zant, Billy Paul, Daniel Berrigan, Alan Young (from the sitcom Mr. Ed), Harambe
So at the halfway point of the year, what do we have to look forward to?
- 2016 Summer Olympics
- American Presidential election
- Panama Canal expansion
- 75th anniversary of Pearl Harbor
Nutjobs still abound the world over, and there’s no shortage of venues for them to appear. And there’s plenty of famous nutjobs who could move on to the great hereafter. Some would be more preferable than others. But I have a feeling that we’ll all be surprised in the coming months. Kinda like I was with the whole Brexit thing.
